Preparing for your Treatment

Plan for some extra time to fill out your intake form at your first session.

Don't eat a large meal right before your treatment.

Schedule some time for yourself after your treatment to let the work sink in.

Turn cell phones and pagers off, unless you are expecting an important call.

If the session is to take place in your home, try to minimize distractions from other people, pets, phones, TVs, etc.

Take a warm shower or bath before your session to help start your relaxation.

No need to wear make-up or jewelry.

Tell your bodywork therapist about any recent injuries, sore spots, bruises, or open wounds.

Let your therapist know if you need a blanket, pillow, or anything else to help make you more comfortable.

Remember: You are in charge of your body and your treatment. Speak up about your needs, if you want more or less pressure, and always let the therapist know immediately if something doesn't feel right.

For Shiatsu treatments:

Wear comfortable, flexible clothing. T-shirts with sweat pants or leggings work great.

Please do not wear jeans or skirts.

You will be removing only shoes, jewelry, belts, watches, pocketfuls of stuff.

Shiatsu is typically given on a mat on the floor. A table may be used for clients who are uncomfortable lying on the floor.

For MFR treatments:

Women may bring shorts and a sports bra, or a two-piece bathing suit to change into.

Men may bring shorts or boxers.

Please do not put lotion or other slippery stuff on your skin before your treatment.

MFR is typically given on a massage table.

For Swedish and Deep Tissue massage:

These modalities are typically given on a massage table, with the client unclothed and under a sheet.

Wear clothing that won't be damaged by a little oil, even though I generally use an unscented massage lotion that soaks into the skin quite nicely, and easily washes out of fabrics.

You may undress to your level of comfort.
